A Few Final Details
Welcome to Denver (or Hell, if you are a Denver resident). We hope you're enjoying your stay. We also hope you remembered sunscreen and water bottles. If not, we'll send you a card in the ER.
Before our big night on Thursday, we wanted to make you aware of a few things.
One: Registration in CLOSED. As in, NO MORE REGISTRATIONS! You are more than welcome to bring everyone and their mother with you on Thursday, but we are just about maxed on free drinks, so we're closing the official list. Thanks to everyone who RSVP'd, and thanks also for spreading the word. We're very excited by the number of bloggers turning out for the bash.
Two: Denver finally figured out what they're doing on Thursday with the Light Rail. If you're planning on taking the Light Rail into downtown, please be aware that you CANNOT take the C or E lines into Union Station. You'll need to take the D, F, or H lines, hop off at 16th, and walk to Trios from there. It won't be more than a few blocks. The posts 3 down still shows the map of the Light Rail for you. (Thanks to GeekMommy for the heads up!)
Three: One of our sponsors, You2Gov, is running a contest for the best 30 second homemade TV political ad in the country for either Obama or McCain, with a $1,000 reward in every category! Feel free to enter or spread the word!
Additionally, You2Gov has set up a place on their site for anyone who would like to blog about the DNC. Their site is growing rapidly in popularity, and we are really grateful to them for giving all of us an opportunity to participate in the political discussion in a place with great exposure! If you're interested, here's how to register:
1. Register on You2Gov using your usual blogging moniker
2. Email me, alan@you2gov.net and identify yourself and your usual blog
3. You2Gov will assign special authoring rights to you so you can post into what is now the Founders Blog (name to be changed to You2Gov Founders Convention Blog). This is a full blogging applet with its own RSS feed, that cross posts into our Latest News Section on the site as well into our forum.
Once you are a newly authorized Author into this site, follow these steps to make blog entries.
1. Log-in to the site at www.you2gov.com.
2. Click on "Write a blog entry" under the User Menu.
3. Type in the entry title, and blog entry. Use the WYSIWYG editor provided. If image is required, click on the "Insert/Edit Image" button next to the print button. A pop-up window will open up. You can upload a picture from a local desktop, by clicking on the Upload button (DO NOT DELETE any of the pictures already in the directory). If you know HTML, you can click on [show/hide] button and add an image from another server by typing in HTML code.
4. Do not click on "insert image" button at the bottom of the entry box. Leave all of the setting as is and click on "Save blog entry" button.
5. To view only your entries to edit, click on "Show your blog" button under the User Menu.
David and I really look forward to meeting you all on Thursday! See you then!
RMBB 5K: The Donkeys Over Denver Edition
With the kind sponsorship of Lijit and with the hard work of Mr. Lady, the DNC edition of the Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash can finally be announced. Thank God.
Trios Enoteca
1730 Wynkoop·Denver, CO 80202
7:30 PM to Close
Free Food and Free Beer & Wine
(In limited supplies and only if we like you.)
Join us for one very long night of beer-swigin' politicing in the heart of downtown. Because god knows, we have a pretty high tolerance here in the Mile High City. Everyone is welcome; hell, this thing is hosted by a political blogger and a mommy blogger. We don't discriminate. Tell your friends, bring your grannie if you must.
This site will continuously update with the links of everyone who RSVPs, so be sure to leave a note to let us know that you're coming. Please leave a valid email address; your free beer depends on it.
We're gathering ideas for decent parking, and are still looking for a few more companies to sponsor food and booze. Email Zombyboy (or Mr Lady if you must, but Zombyboy's probably your best choice) for information if you're interested.
And heck, could you maybe go download Lijit's little search widget? Because really, without them, we'd be doing this thing at Zomby's house.
Rocky Mountain Blogger Bash 5K : Details, Schmetails
After careful consideration, thorough research, and a few slams of my forehead into the keyboard, I have solved our parking dilemma downtown:
Don't.
The whole city is going to be a (censored). RTD says that they do not yet know what impact moving the convention to Invesco Field on the 28th will have on the traffic flow around the city, and when a major metropolitan city shrugs its shoulders at you and says, "I dunno," you would be right to start being very afraid.
Here's the thing. Denver has this awesome new public transit system called Light Rail (It had better be awesome; I paid a crap load in taxes for it and have never ONCE had the chance to ride it.) The good news it that Trios Enoteca is directly across the street from one of the major stops on the line, Union Station. All you have to do it get yourself on the C or E line at some point, and the Light Rail will force you off at Union Station, which it the last stop. If you're coming from downtown, just hop off at 16th and Stout and take the mall ride west (or god forbid, walk) to Wynkoop Street.
If you come in by bus, every bus in the city has to come through Market Street Station at some point. Get off there and walk west for 2 blocks to Wynkoop.
It gets better. I have a MAP for you of the Light Rail line. You can click the image to jump over to RTD's website and see the larger map. And here's the link to all of the Park and Ride Stations around town. There's a lot of'em, folks.
Light Rail fares range from $1.75 to $4.00, depending on how far from the city you're coming. But hell, we're buying your first beer, so call it a wash.
